reap goodness

“as you sow, so shall you reap” isn’t just a proverb — it’s close to universal belief. every action has a reaction. what we’re living through today is what got sown yesterday, and what we sow today decides tomorrow.

the bible says the same thing, going back to creation itself:

“as long as the earth remains, there will be planting and harvest…” (genesis 8:22 nlt)

we might sow something without even realising the consequences, but we still reap what grows from it. that’s not up for negotiation — it’s just how the process works.

“be not deceived; god is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” (galatians 6:7)

the land decides what grows

we can’t stop this process, because producing is just what land does.

“god’s kingdom is like seed thrown on a field by a man who then goes to bed and forgets about it. the seed sprouts and grows — he has no idea how it happens. the earth does it all without his help…” (mark 4:26-29 msg)

the earth brings forth fruit based on what’s sown into it. so if this process can’t be changed, what do we do when we realise the wrong thing was sown, but we want a different result?

there’s only one way: change the land itself.

“if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then i will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (ii chronicles 7:14)

repentance heals the heart

repentance is what heals our land — our heart. the moment we turn from our old ways, that ground is healed enough to start producing goodness again.

“repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of jesus christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the holy spirit.” (acts 2:38)

most believers have already received forgiveness through baptism. but that’s not the whole picture — it takes ongoing repentance alongside it. working out our own salvation (phil 2:12), trusting in the one who makes anything possible (phil 4:13).

the seed that was already sown for us

it’s in that healed heart that joy and light get sown next (ps 97:11). so how did the healing actually happen?

“the hour has come that the son of man should be glorified. most assuredly, i say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.” (john 12:23-24)

jesus was the seed sown for us. now the healed land produces goodness — not because we’re trying harder, but because jesus is already sown into it. it keeps producing, little by little, without effort. love instead of hatred. good instead of evil.

if you’re looking to reap goodness in your life: repent, and believe in what’s already been sown for you (ps 97:11). let him bring the change in you gradually — he’s the incorruptible seed, sown for us.
